🌲 Day 11 / June 16 – Journey to Lake Khövsgöl

From Volcanic Highlands to the Blue Pearl of Mongolia - After breakfast, we begin our journey north toward Mongolia’s most pristine lake region. The drive is long but incredibly scenic as landscapes gradually shift from volcanic highlands to dense Siberian forests.
- Distance: Approx. 250–300 km
- Drive Time: 6–7 hours
🏔 Changing Landscapes
Along the way, you will observe:
- Rolling mountain passes
- Larch and pine forests
- Yak and cattle herds
- Remote nomadic settlements
The climate becomes cooler and fresher as we approach the northern taiga region.
🌊 Arrival at Lake Khövsgöl
We arrive at Lake Khövsgöl, often called the “Dark Blue Pearl of Mongolia.”
Facts about the lake:
- 136 km long
- Holds nearly 70% of Mongolia’s fresh water
- Connected to Lake Baikal through the Eg River
- Surrounded by mountains reaching over 3,000 meters

🦌 Day 12 / June 17 – Tsaatan (Reindeer Herders) Experience

Nomads of the Taiga - After breakfast, we travel toward the taiga forest to meet the Tsaatan reindeer herders.
🌲 The Tsaatan Community
The Tsaatan are one of Mongolia’s smallest ethnic minorities, living in the deep forests near the Siberian border.
Their lifestyle includes:
- Reindeer herding
- Hunting and gathering
- Living in teepee-style tents called “Ortz”
- Seasonal migration through the taiga
You will:
- Meet reindeer herder families
- Learn about their dependence on reindeer
- Take photographs with reindeer
- Experience traditional taiga culture
🥾 Scenic Hike
After lunch, enjoy a guided hike to a mountain viewpoint overlooking Lake Khövsgöl. From above, the lake appears like a turquoise jewel framed by mountains.

🌋 Day 13 / June 18 – Uran Mountain (Extinct Volcano)

Northern Mongolia’s Wild Beauty - Today we drive via Moron, the provincial capital of Khuvsgul Province, toward Uran Mountain.
- Distance: 400 km
- Drive Time: 6 hours (mostly paved)
🌋 Uran Mountain
Uran Mountain is an extinct volcano featuring:
- A crater 600 meters wide
- 50 meters deep
- Rugged volcanic rock formations
The climb is moderate and rewards you with vast views of untouched northern wilderness. This region is less visited and feels remote and wild.

🏯 Day 14 / June 19 – Amarbayasgalant Monastery

Architectural Masterpiece of Mongolia - After breakfast, drive toward Amarbayasgalant Monastery.
- Distance: 260 km
- Drive Time: 4 hours
🕌 Historical & Spiritual Significance
Built between 1726–1736 under the Manchu Emperor Yongzheng, Amarbayasgalant is dedicated to Zanabazar, Mongolia’s first Bogd Gegeen.
Highlights:
- Manchu-Tibetan architectural style
- Ornate wood carvings
- Preserved temple halls
- Active monks practicing Buddhism
Unlike many monasteries destroyed in 1937, Amarbayasgalant survived largely intact. Enjoy a peaceful walk around the monastery and short hike in the surrounding hills.

🏙 Day 15 / June 20 – Return to Ulaanbaatar

Journey Back to Civilization - After breakfast, we begin the return drive to Ulaanbaatar.

The road gradually transitions from countryside steppe back to urban life.
Upon arrival:
- Hotel check-in
- Free time for shopping
- Optional farewell dinner
This is your final night to reflect on your 2,000+ km journey across Mongolia’s diverse landscapes.
