🏞️ ABOUT MONGOLIAN KAZAKH NOMADS & MIGRATION
The Kazakh nomads of western Mongolia practice a centuries-old lifestyle of seasonal migration. In spring and autumn, families relocate with their livestock across rugged terrain, including high mountain passes and frozen lakes. The journey spans about 150–170 km and lasts five to six days. Camels carry gers (felt yurts), supplies, and tools while herders ride horseback and guide the livestock. Migration is both a necessity for survival and a powerful cultural tradition that continues despite harsh conditions—temperatures can drop below -35°C and wolf attacks are not uncommon.
🦅 ABOUT EAGLE HUNTERS
Kazakhs in western Mongolia are the last keepers of the ancient art of eagle hunting. These hunters, often mounted on horseback, train golden eagles to hunt foxes and hares. The bond between eagle and hunter is profound and ceremonial, passed down through generations. Photographers on this tour will have rare opportunities to document these hunters in action—both staged portraits and real moments during migration.
